My Experience with YAHL by Emma Teague
I am Emma Teague, and I am going to be a senior at Keys High School. This year is my first year being on the Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL) leadership team.
My first experience with YAHL was at the training hosted at my high school. Later that year, I participated in YAHL Swap Up Day. We provided healthier food options to students in school to help elevate youth health. Attending the Leadership Summit has helped me develop public speaking skills, communication skills and networking skills.
YAHL has two campaigns: Elevate Student Health and CounterAct Tobacco. Through Elevate Student Health, I have the opportunity to participate in school board meetings to educate them on why we need clean drinking water, more nutritious food and more physical activity. Through CounterAct Tobacco I have the opportunity to present to different organizations about the dangers of smoking and vaping while collecting surveys that support this campaign.
I joined YAHL to advocate for a healthier community and improve some of the health issues we are currently facing. It is important to me that our generation comes together through organizations like YAHL to spread awareness on ways we can improve our physical health.
I am excited to be more involved this upcoming year and learn more about what YAHL has to offer.
