Making an Impact with YAHL by Addison Null-Kelly
My name is Addison Null-Kelly and I’m a senior at Hennessey High School. I originally joined YAHL to get a free lunch and volunteer hours but soon realized my passion falls in our campaigns and goals.
My passion for YAHL first started at the Leadership Summit in 2023. I was very nervous to be away from anyone I knew but quickly made close friendships that still follow me. Participating in activities around the city and being split into different groups each day forced me to make new friends, which helped with my social anxiety. I really enjoyed going to sessions and learning what YAHL was all about and why all of my peers were as passionate as I am.
Learning how to lead the YAHL program at my school and starting to schedule meetings with my principal, school board and city council helped me feel organized and prepared to start the school year.
During the 2024 summit, I was able to bring my best friend Abigail along with me and introduce her to all of my leadership friends. It’s been amazing seeing where everyone is going with their lives and where their passion lies.
This year in YAHL, I’d like to pursue more opportunities with Elevate Student Health and do more public speaking. It’s important for my community to know that youth have a voice and are willing to put in the work to make change happen.
I’m so proud to be a member of YAHL and work towards changing the future for Oklahoma.
